Si bé el terme “artista” designa, des del segle XVIII, l’autor d’una “obra d’art”, els historiadors de l’art tenen dificultats a l’hora d’encaixar aquest concepte en la realitat medieval. Although since the eighteenth century the term “artist” has referred to the creator of a “work of art”, art historians have difficulty in deining this concept in the context of the Mediaeval period. Carles Mancho shows that the creator and the work maitined a more multifaceted relationship in the Middle Ages, often very close to the relationship we find between contemporary artists and art than in the modern era.
